Music can be classified as a simple means of expression. However, the history behind the evolution of music and its numerous genres is anything but simple and straight to the point. The evolution of music in a region has a direct correlation to the history of that region as well as the new ways of understanding the world. There was no separation between culture and music in ancient Nigerian society and even present day music is a sign that this practice has been preserved. Music always reflects new rhythmic patterns, which are introduced, bringing with them new ways of understanding time. A very good example of this musical transformation is music from Nigeria, which reflects a fundamental part of Nigerian culture but also shows how much progress Nigerian music and music videos have made in line with adjoining itself to globally accepted practices. One trendy traditional form of music, which has captivated a huge amount of young Nigerians, is Choral music. This is because Choral has been an easier way for Nigerians to relay their culture in a more westernised art form.
The official arrangement of most Nigerian music is based on the ostinato. In some concert quite a lot of diverse ostinatos may be used in different sequences at the judgment of the musician. The ostinato form is used in vocal music as well, but it is usually adapted by adding a solo part placed between recurrent unchanging chorus parts. The possibility for difference of this form is exploited to the fullest by a majority of Nigerian musicians. However, one trait of Nigerian music is its tendency to cause an engaging and lively mood when a musician performs.
